Joomla Modules

The Joomla community is buzzing all over the world and new web sites are popping up everywhere as more people are finding out what a great web site management system it truly is. It can be used for almost any kind of Internet site from small and amateur to super large and corporate. A Joomla module is a basic part of the Joomla system, normally only a few lines of code that can be used together with other modules to create the entire Joomla experience. These modules can be edited by a developer so that they fit exactly with some one's needs. New modules can also be created at will giving a designer new options for their web page design. There are lots of freely downloadable modules that can be use by any Joomla website. In this article I will also mention a few ways to edit and create these modules.

Joomla can be split into different layers of development. At the bottom is the pure machine code of the hardware computer, on top of this the HTML, CSS and other generational code that is written. Still further up the chain there is code specific to Joomla environments including templates and modules that are placed into the Joomla system by a developer. What many users don't seem to know is that both Joomla templates and Joomla modules can be created and edited within the Joomla system.

In order to edit a module you first have to get your hands on it. By going on to a Joomla site you can find the different modules in the module manager. You can then change the existing positions of the modules and assign them accordingly. It is easy to then publish the modules and load them into positions in your article or page. All modules allow the addition of parameters so that you can change one aspect of the design without having to go deep into the code of the page. By changing how a certain parameter is defined you can access some things easily without having to have a complex interface. As well as editing you can also create your very own Joomla modules.

You can not create a Joomla module from scratch from within the Joomla administrator. Instead you will have to make the files first and then install them into the system as modules. You must have a definition statement as the first line of the module code, and it is probably a good idea if you take the time to learn what all of the different tags mean. When you have made your module you must install it into your modules from the menu, and then publish it so that you can witness your creation. It is quite easy initially to create Joomla modules, but you can get more deeply into areas of presentation and develop your ideas further as you go along. There are many modules that have been made by the Joomla community already that you can access through the official forums and the many other Joomla resources online.
